The Tamang Heritage Trail is the newest trekking route in the Nepal Himalaya. We have been researching this region since 2004 and it is by far our ‘favourite little spot for a walk’. Some Nepali NGO’s have worked hard with local villagers to improve the trails and the result is an easy-going route through pristine mountain scenery. This will become one of the most popular short trekking routes in the years to come as it offers a great general overview to the Himalaya and its cultures, and is very easy to access from Kathmandu.
One of the highlights of this trek is the opportunity to do ‘home stays’ in the village of Briddim. This involves staying in a traditional Tamang house for a couple of nights. There are also fantastic views of Tibetan, Langtang and Ganesh Himal ranges. Without a doubt this is a gem of a trek and excellent acclimatization before heading to Mustang.

Three friends and I trekked from Lukla to Kalapathar over the course of 13 days. We were guided by Bachan Rai. Who throughout the journey was an excellent guide, who went beyond his duties to ensure that we had a fantastic time. Bachan was kind and caring especially when one of us suffered with altitude sickness. Without a doubt the three of us believe that we choose the best place and guides for our trek and would recommend them to anyone.
We have gained a friend for life and when we return we will be using Bachan and Summit Treks and Advantures for further trips.
