TIBET is one of the world’s most extraordinary destination and there is adventure indeed lurking around almost each and every corner. Lhasa The capital lies high in the arid wilderness of the Tibetan mountains, it’s name the “Roof of the World”

is no idle statement. The valley bottoms of Tibet are higher than the highest mountains elsewhere . It’s snow covered plateaux are the highest in the world , and apart from the Everest , which Tibetans see from ‘the other side’, many mountains are over 15000 feet.

Best Season to Travel Tibet

Wherever you travel, it is important to get the timing right! from our experienced travel advisors who will design you a perfect tour according to your specific requests.

The climate in highland Tibet belongs to the typical downy special climate. Climates are much different in different areas in Tibet and temperatures vary greatly within a single day.

Climate in southeastern Tibet (e.g. Nyingchi) is gentle and temperate with the average temperature of eight degrees; In western Tibet (e.g. Nakqu), the average temperature is below zero degree; While in Lhasa and the central part of Tibet, the climate is normal and nice for traveling. Visitors would not feel cold in winter nor hot in summer, especially from March to October, the best seasons for traveling. Most annual rainfall comes in the rainy season that starts from May to September, when the precipitation covers 90 percent of the whole year. Usually it rains at night in Lhasa, Shigatse and Chamdo area. The precipitations gradually decrease from 5000 millimeters in the lower part of southeast to just 50 in the northwest.

So generaly speaking, the best time to travel Tibet is between April and October, and peak season is from May to September. The best months are May, June, September or October as July and August are rainy months. Those who travel in their own car or on foot should avoid the rainy season especialy when entering Tibet along the Sichuan-Tibet Highway, and the sections between Lhasa and Nyingchi and between Lhasa and Ngari. There will be mudslides, cave-ins and mire on certain sections of the road, blocking the passage of vehicles. However, if you are only planning several days in and around Lhasa and getting there by air. There will be no problem for you to travel at any time from April to October.

Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is situated on the alluvial flood plains of the Sapta-Koshi River (one of the three tributaries of Ganges) in Terai, Eastern Nepal. Established in 1976 with area of 175 sq. km. to protect the grassland and islands in the floodplains of Sapta Koshi River, it is also the last habitat of the Arna (wild water buffalo). Bird watchers arrive here in search of the beautiful Bengal florican and the flamboyant sarus cranes. More than 440 species of birds have been recorded here including those that arrive from Siberia and Tibet around November to February. The reserve is also home to wild boar, jackals, pythons and crocodiles. The endangered Gangetic dolphins are seen occasionally when they surface in the river.
Reverine and Sal forests and grasslands dominate the vegetation of the reserve. This combination of vegetation and wetland proves a special site for birds and animals. Around 300 species of birds have been recorded in this reserve. These include waterfowl, birds of prey, waders, and other water birds. The globally threatened Swamp Partridge (Francolinus Gularis) is also a familiar sight. The nearby Koshi Barrage has created a vast expanse of water. This makes it the most important staging point for migrating birds. At the same time it is an all year playground for resident ones. Makalu, the world’s fifth highest mountain (8,463m), can be glimpsed on a clear day. This enhances the beauty of the scenery dramatically.
History – A study of the reserve was conducted between 1997 to 1998 by the Central Department of Zoology, Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu. The study found serious conflicts between the reserve wildlife and the local people living adjacent to the reserve. The people suffered crop depredations and animal harassment while the reserve managers had the problems of illegal poaching, cattle grazing, and other other illegal activities in the reserve. The study has several recommendations, one of which is the promotion of tourism to the area with the reserve using local tourist guides trained by wildlife experts.
You can explore the forest of Koshi Tappu safari riding on elephant back. Here you will see the hattisar (elephant stable) where elephant breed regularly and which is one of few such facilities in Asia. During the Koshi Tappu Safari at dusk and dawn time you will see many varieties of birds and animals sitting along the river. The best place to watch the bird species is the Barrage, downstream of the river.

Jiri to Everest Base Camp and Kala pattar is a highly praised trekking route of the Everest region. It was in 1953 when two renown figures Sir Edmund Hillary and Mr. Tenzing Nogey Sherpa had taken the same route for the Mt. Everest expedition.

After an eight hour scenic drive from Kathmandu to Jiri, our trek starts the following morning, by passing through the lower parts of Everest region that are relatively undeveloped compared to the northern side of the district around Namche Bazaar. This enables trekkers to experience many traditional aspects of culture and local people. The trail passes through numerous villages of different ethnic groups including Tamang, Jirel, Rai, Brahmin, Chettri and of course the Sherpa’s. Walking along this trek involves many ups and down hills with the trail being well serviced with tea houses and good campsites in most of the villages.

Being a combination of two treks that passed from Namche Bazaar, the main trading village of the Khumbu area continuing via Gokyo valley, Chola pass, Lobuche, Everest Base Camp and up to Kalapattar then back down to Tengboche monastery and all the way to Lukla.

Kanchanjuga is the third highest of the world’s peaks and one of the most remote trekking areas in the Nepal Himalaya. This route takes you from the southeastern corner of Nepal at altitudes of just 70m to the base camp of this, one of the greatest mountain masses in the world. It’s one of Nepal’s least trekked are and certainly one of it’s most beautiful. From kathmandu you fly to Taplejung via Biratnagar and commence trekking up to Tamur valley along one of the oldest trade routes in the Himalaya. Walking through lush rhododendron forests you climb on into high alpine terrain beyond the village of Gunsa. A camp established high above this village that provides astounding views of Kanchenjunga’s south face. Returning to Gunsa you then cross the lapsung la pass and trek on to the Yalung glacier and Kanchunga base camp. This really is still exploratory trekking and you must be prepared to take the trail as it comes. But to look up at Kanchanjunga’s towering south face is easily reward enough for your efforts. Retracing your route to Taplejung you return to Kathmandu, having become one of few who have experienced this remarkable and little known region on Nepal.

Mustang has often been called the forbidden kingdom. The region is only opened for a limited number of tourists per year. Lo Manthang (Mustang) is located north of the main Himalayan chain with snow capped mountains to the east and west while bordering Tibet to the north. There is a relatively wide and leveled ridge towards the north with passes not higher than 4,600 m. Falling within the Himalayan rain shadow, the climate and land is dry and arid. The historical villages of the valley rest at the altitudes between 3,300 m and 4,000 m. The region was once an important salt trading post in the trans-Himalayan belt. From Kagbeni to Tzug as you walk north to the Kali Gandaki Valley, the valley grows broader. Walking towards Samar, you are surrounded by the ruins of temples and fortresses. Along the way you will visit the famous cave at Rongbyoung Chorten with its many stone carved deities. Most prominent being the figure of Padmasambhava (the Indian Guru who brought Buddhism to Tibet). The journey from Giling to Tsarang passes through important ruins at Gemi. After crossing the passes in the approach to Tsarang, the large monastery is evidently visible. The monastery houses fresco paintings of a thousand Buddhas, hanging thankas, antique ceiling, as well as other sacred objects, reminders of its rich cultural past. After Tsarang, the walk to Lo Manthang is short. It is dotted by houses and monasteries enclosed within fortress walls. While the route to Lo has been used for centuries by traders and a few scholars, only now are tourists being allowed to tread these historic paths.
